USWSU Student Choice Awards 2023: Event information

This page provides information about the Student Choice Awards 2023 Event for invitees and shortlisted nominees.

Date and Time: Thursday 25th May, Registration at 18:00, ceremony to commence no later than 18:25.

Venue: University of South Wales Students’ Union, Treforest, CF37 1UF


Who is Invited?

The Student Choice Awards Event is an invite-only event. invitees fall under two categories:

Senior Staff Invitees:

We invite senior staff from across the University to attend the Student Choice Awards to help celebrate the success of the staff and students who have been shortlisted for any of the awards. As leaders in their areas, it provides an opportunity to highlight the amazing work and people throughout the University.

We also invite relevant staff members for certain nominations. These can include head of subjects or line managers. 

Shortlisted Nominees:

Out of the hundreds of individuals nominated for an award, the Student Choice Award judging panels shortlist 3 nominees for each category. These shortlisted nominees are invited to the event to recognise their achievements and also to be present when the award winner is announced.

Outside of this, staff from the Students’ Union will also be on hand to help facilitate and ensure the smooth running of the event.


Is There a Dress Code for the Event?

There is no set dress code for the event. However, due to the type of event, we suggest smart casual attire. However, it is encouraged to wear what you find comfortable.

Will Refreshments be Available?

The venue for the event, Eclipse, hosts a bar that will be operating for staff and students to purchase alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages prior to the awards presentation and shortly after.

This is my First Time Attending a Student Choice Awards Event, what can I expect?

The Students Choice Awards is first and foremost an event to celebrate students and staff across USW. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by USWSU staff who will register your attendance. You will then be directed to your seat. you can use the time prior to the awards presentation to purchase a beverage, mingle or peruse the information about the Student Choice Awards and this year's shortlist. 

The event will then commence, which will involve going through each award and showcasing the nominations for all shortlisted staff in that category. The winner will then be announced and invited to the stage to collect their award and to make any remarks. They will then return to their seat for the duration of the event. After the event, the winners will be asked to remain behind to allow the SU to take photographs and other housekeeping items.

Can Invitees bring a +1?

Shortlisted nominees are entitled to bring a +1 with them to the event. However, depending on RSVPs, we will open up additional +1 seats which Staff nominees will have access to. These will be communicated via the Students’ Union.

The Students’ Union is excited to welcome all invitees and short listers to the Students’ Union building on the 25th to recognise and celebrate staff and students.
