Michael Chigozie Anasonye
SU President Candidate
Together We Lead, Your Voice, Your Future, Our Stronger University.
Why are you standing in the SU Elections?
I am running for SU President because I understand the academic and personal struggles that students face. As a Course Representative at the University of South Wales, I actively listen to students' issues and strive to enhance their university experience. I have leadership experience as a former Students' Union Sports Director in Nigeria, as well as the founder and manager of Domael Ltd, where I lead teams and manage projects. These responsibilities have improved my capacity to represent many perspectives, solve challenges, and produce outcomes. I want to use my experience to effect genuine change, build stronger support systems, and provide more chances for all children.
If elected, what are your three priorities you want to focus on during your time in office?
- Student Support and Wellbeing: Enhance mental health services, academic coaching, and cost-of-living assistance to ensure students' success.
- Career and Business Opportunities: Leverage my business leadership experience to provide networking events, entrepreneurial support, internships, and employer partnerships that will increase graduate employability.
- Strong Representation and Inclusion: Create a transparent SU that actually listens to all students - domestic, international, commuter, and postgraduate , ensuring that student voice translates to visible action and policy change. My goal is to provide practical solutions that improve everyday student life.
What do you see as your biggest strength and biggest weakness and why?
My biggest strength is leadership based on actual experience. Managing Domael Ltd and organising student activities has helped me improve my organisational, communication, and decision-making skills. As a Course Representative, I understand student needs and can effectively advocate for solutions. My weakness is that I am extremely committed, which can lead to me taking on several obligations. However, my leadership experience has taught me the importance of effective delegation, cooperation, and prioritization in achieving consistent and long-term results.
