Understanding your Results – Information on MAB impacted results.

It is results week here at USW. Final year students should have received an email at 9 am on the 28th to access results with other years receiving their results on the 29th.

Being able to understand your results is even more important. This is especially important this year as the UCU Marking Assessment Boycott (MAB) has led to uncertainty and confusion for students across the UK.

The Marking Assessment Boycott has resulted in some students being impacted in their results. Where possible the University has progressed with Assessment Boards to ensure that there is as minimal impact on students as possible but that the academic standards of every degree awarded this year are upheld.

The first thing to do is to check your emails.

If you have been impacted by the MAB in any way. This will be communicated to you through your emails. You will have an email that contains contact information for your faculty, as well as the next steps. If you are a final-year student, it is important you contact the faculty if you have been affected.

You may have a deferred mark which means that these assessments could not be marked through any means available and that any decision has been made with these assessments excluded. The important thing to remember is not to panic. Assessments will be marked at a later date.

If marks have been submitted for 50% or more on a module, you may receive a ‘Boycott Mark.’ This mark will act as the overall module mark until the rest of the module can be marked. It is important to note that you cannot be downgraded in marks through this. Meaning that if you were given a mark of 64 for one assessment and a mark of 0 for another in the same module, the module mark would remain at 64. Your mark can only go up once things have been re-marked.

If you are still unsure or have any other questions, the University has a student FAQ page that can help. You can access the page here.

Support is on hand.

If you are still unsure, confused, or worried about your results, then please contact the Advice Zone. You can also access University support services available to you such as the wellbeing service. Get in contact with us at the Students’ Union if you need signposting to the right team or want to chat about your results.

Regardless of your result, we want to say congratulations to everyone who is getting their marks, and well done for all the hard work you have put in this year and throughout your time studying at USW.
