The Students’ Union is pleased to invite representations from sport student groups to attend the inaugural Sports Forum.

What is it?

The Sports Forum is a new meeting established to ensure that sport students are given the opportunity to have their voice heard and to shape the Union’s approach to Sports and the Sporting Programme as a whole.

What will be discussed?

The Sports Programme has a light agenda to ensure that major items are given time to be considered and for appropriate space for representatives to discuss any issues their sport is facing.

For the first meeting, the agenda will focus on two items, the USWSU Sports Participant and Student Group Code of Conduct and the USWSU Sports Programme 26/27 Consultation.

Sporting Student Groups are urged to ensure representations are made to help shape the future of the Union’s Sporting programme.

Who is eligible to attend?

Sports Forum is made up of representatives from the Student Groups linked to Sports. The number of representatives they are allowed to provide varies on the size of the student group.

All student groups will be allocated at least one representative from the committee of the student group.

The additional number of representatives will be determined by 10% of the entire membership of a student group, rounded up, for a maximum of 9 additional allocated representatives. An example of this is made below:

Sport

Number of Members

Total Representatives (Including committee representative)

Korfball

16

2+1=3

American Football

35

4+1=5

Table Tennis

3

1+1=2

Example calculation: 16 members would give 1.6 representatives as 10%, rounded up to 2 plus the committee representative gives 3 reps in total.

We will confirm the representation allocation via the total number of members registered on the student group page – meaning if you have not yet done so, contact ellis.thomas@southwales.ac.uk to confirm members. The deadline for this will be 26th November 2025 at 13:00.

Please note: Only Student Groups with a valid Constitution will be able to attend. If your sport is not constituted, they will be ineligible to have representatives

When and Where is the first meeting?

The meeting will be held on the 3rd December at 16:00 in Cables at the Students’ Union Building in Treforest.

How to get involved?

We have sent all committees of the relevant Sport Clubs information on the agenda, draft terms of reference and current allocations (subject to change following deadline mentioned above). Committees have been asked to complete the Rep Form sent to them so that a list of representatives is provided for the night. However, if you are interested in being a representative, please contact your committee to discuss this.
