The USW Language & Cultural Society is a welcoming community where languages bring us together and cultural differences are something to celebrate. Whether you’re fluent in several languages, just starting to learn your first, or simply curious about the world, there’s a place for you here.
🌱 Our Story: A Friendship That Started It All
Founded in 2016, our society began with a friendship between Amal from Yemen and Mariel from Cyprus. Their friendship blossomed through a shared curiosity about one another’s languages and cultures, inspiring them to create a space where others could experience that same connection. Later, Shahla from Sudan became part of this founding story, helping the society grow.
What began as a friendship and a desire to learn from one another became a community built on cultural exchange, understanding and belonging. We are incredibly grateful to Amal, Mariel and Shahla, whose vision and initiative made this society possible. Their story remains at the heart of what we do today: bringing people together through the things that make us different, as well as the things we share.

You don’t need to be fluent in another language or be an expert on a particular culture to join us. All languages, cultures, backgrounds and levels of experience are welcome!
