Rhys Pewtner
VP Student Activities

Rhys is taking a break from his Computer Science degree to work in the Students' Union as VP Student Activities. Rhys was a course rep during his first year at university, before becoming a Student Voice Rep and Mature Student's Officer, where he worked on projects around the student-parent experience at university and software availability in his faculty. As a parent of two young children, Rhys recognises that there is not one typical student experience, and wants to reflect that in his work this year.

  • Continuing the rollout of the new society grading system for better society funding.
  • Increasing the presence of the Student’s Union in Newport & Cardiff.
  • Events for everyone and more variety in what the SU offers.

"Apart from the meal deals in the SU shop, my favourite thing about the Students' Union is the student representation structure. It might be under the radar sometimes, but there are multiple layers of student volunteers who dedicate time and effort to giving students a voice in the university. Being involved in that has massively enhanced my university experience.
