Lewis Fall

"Lewis is, in my opinion, an excellent lecturer; they are very engaging throughout each lecture and teaches subjects in both, in depth, yet understandable way. I also feel that Lewis; enthusiasm for the subject really shows in his teaching and allows for us, as students, to also feel enthusiastic about the subjects we are taught in this field. I definitely think what separates Lewis from other lecturers, is his ability to support students, regardless of how much time it takes out of his schedule, they are always happy to help in any way he can. He is genuine and patient, he just listens and provides amazing support that I think should not go unnoticed.

Winner of Winners

Cerith Jones

"I can honestly say that no one has ever put so much effort into helping me achieve something as big as this. They are the sort of person that will always make time for me, to discuss my work and progress, for general support or to simply try and raise my confidence. They are the sort of person who will listen to me and my ideas and steer me in the right direction, providing expert advice and enhancing my skill set. They are the sort of person who is always there to support me, no matter how tough things get.

Doing a PhD is like being on a Ferris wheel. Sometimes you are the top when things are going great, sometimes you are the bottom when things aren't going so great. But over the past year, Cerith has been there every step of the way, which I'm truly thankful for. I'm nominating them for Best Academic Supervisor because that's what they are, the best supervisor I could have hoped for."

Winner of Winners

Elke Scheibler

"Elke is perfect. She is kind and supportive, and are always genuinely trying to make things the best they can be. Elke is the reason I'm still at university, and they deserve the award just for the difference they have made to me personally. Yet, they have undoubtedly touched the lives of every other student they have worked with. From what I understand, being a Course Leader is an incredibly demanding job, at which I would never be able to succeed. Elke manages to not only succeed but to go above and beyond for every one of her students.

Winner of Winners

Chris Hill

"He has an open ear to student feedback, he actively seeks our opinions and has even asked to help him improve their modules for the students who may follow us. He has also discussed assessments and what we like or dislike about them. Overall, he has shown a keen interest in student engagement, satisfaction, and how we can work in partnership to improve the module. He frequently discusses the assessment rubric with the students to make sure we are clearly aware of what we need to do to achieve the best possible result - also offering some of the best feedback I have ever experience at USW. I am sure his open and empathetic approach will improve their teaching, the module as well as student engagement and results."

Outstanding Student Support

Counselling and Wellbeing Team

"I think it is safe to say that the Counselling and Wellbeing Team at USW by no means have an easy job, services are high demand amongst students for support in their emotional and mental well-being to support them to be able to stay in University and continue studying. I would very much like to recognise the heroes who work in supporting to manage and run these services for the USW community.

They have provided me with a safe place to share. They have been extremely patient with me and have tailored sessions to fit in with my needs, reading my body language extremely well and they have how to adapt their approach to fit my current mood within a session. Furthermore, when I fell to rock bottom, they supported me to develop plans to safeguard myself and gave me information on external services I could access whenever I was not in an appointment or able to access appointments via the USW service."

Course Rep of the Year

Kieran Challenger

"Kieran has all the qualities of a fantastic Course Rep. They are friendly and approachable whilst at the same time being reliable and unafraid of taking issues forward. Their attendance at their Student Staff Course Liaison Groups has allowed effective representation for the course. Kieran's willingness to engage with Student Voice Reps at Course Rep Assemblies shows their appreciation of the student representation structures in the University and their importance. Additionally, they have willingly engaged with other campaigns and events, including Change Week, demonstrating a passion for improving the student experience."

Student Voice Rep of the Year

Khalid Ali

"Khalid, since I met him in 2017, has been a dedicated SVR. Their growth in the role has been tremendous. Their confidence has improved vastly, plus their knowledge for the role. They have effectively used the student voice to push forward for important changes in their Faculty, in the Students' Union and the wider University. Also, this year, they are now the Executive Student Voice Representative, taking a massive lead on decision-making within the Students' Union."

Most Inspirational Student

Anna Hill

"I am very proud of all our students, they each come with personal challenges that we support them to overcome, but Anna's resilience, their refusal to give up and be beaten by ill-health is a true inspiration to us all. I have never once heard them moan, or ask why they, a fit and healthy 20-year-old, has been dealt this card, instead, they have chosen to continually see the positive and change their career pathway after graduation to nursing, so they can inspire people who are facing the same challenges as they did and help them overcomes their fears.

As a Course Leader, it is a privilege to play a part in someone's learning journey. I feel especially privileged to have been part of Anna's journey and I will watch them cross the graduation stage with pride in July."
