PARKING IN PONTYPRIDD

THE IDEA

Students wanted to see more parking available at the Pontypridd campuses and for it be cheaper.

ACTION

  • The Welfare Officer will talk to the University about parking in Pontypridd but it is unlikely that prices can be changed nor extra spaces added.

UPDATE

SEPTEMBER 6TH

  • The Welfare officer has spoken to the university who have confirmed that parking charges in Treforest and Glyntaff are not able to change.
  • The University advises students that there are limited spaces in Treforest and in Glyntaff. They provide a shuttle bus service between Treforest, Glyntaff and the Sport Park to help those who have had to park at a different campus. There are also local car parks that students can park in, such as Sardis Road which is close to Pontypridd train station. There is a lot of information about parking in Pontypridd on the USW website.
  • Timetabling is working to implement timetables that stop bottlenecking at the car parks.
  • In relation to the Make USW Greener theme and the University's sustainability focus, students are advised to look into car-sharing and the use of public transport.

WHAT YOU SAID

"Parking is a major problem, especially on Tuesdays."

"Parking - purchase a pass but not guaranteed space upon arrival."

"There have been many times where I have had to miss lectures/seminars due to not being able to park."

"Free parking."

"I would like to see more car parking for students as we struggle to find parking when coming in for lectures at 9 am."

HOW IT WORKS

1. Students submit ideas during Change Week.

2. Teams of students gather to hack solutions to the biggest problems.

3. Teams pitch their ideas to a panel of University big wigs.

4. SU Officers and teams work with staff to make the ideas a reality.
