MAKE USW GREENER & MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

THE IDEA

Students wanted to see more recycling bins across all the campuses and to see the University and Students' Union focus more on environmental matters and sustainability.

ACTION

  • Estates made a bid for money to install new flushes and showerheads across campus. This was rejected, but they have committed to replacing all these with more environmentally friendly versions every time they need replacing.
  • Estates won a bid for money to put more recycling bins on campuses, which have been ordered.
  • The Estates Sustainability Officer is setting up a student group championing sustainability. Students from the team will be involved in this.

UPDATE

WHAT YOU SAID

"More recycling bins around campus"

"More recycling bins in lectures and lab rooms."

"Cigarette disposal bins around the University to reduce waste"

"Less plastic use across campus."

"Recycling bins in classes - we still only have waste bins."

HOW IT WORKS

1. Students submit ideas during Change Week.

2. Teams of students gather to hack solutions to the biggest problems.

3. Teams pitch their ideas to a panel of University big wigs.

4. SU Officers and teams work with staff to make the ideas a reality.
