INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT

THE IDEA

International students wanted there to be more financial support available to them.

ACTION

  • The Activities Officer will discuss the available support with the International Office to see if any improvements can be made.
  • The comments will be passed onto the incoming International Officer on Student Council where appropriate to work on over the year.

UPDATE

AUGUST 22ND

  • The Activities Officer spoke to the International Office, who clarified that financial support goes through Academic Registry rather than them. Academic Registry have not yet discussed the comments with the SU.

OCTOBER 30TH

  • A Student Voice Representative (Kyle Eldridge, SVR for Business 19/20) is planning on writing their SVR research project on International Students' Experience, part of which may be the financial support they receive.

NOVEMBER 5TH

  • The Activities Officer has contacted Academic Registry to discuss their feedback.

NOVEMBER 29TH

  • The Activities Officer discussed this feedback with Academic Registry and was directed to the International Fees section of the USW website. Students are welcome to contact the International Office within the University or go to the Advice Zone for help and advice regarding financial support that they are eligible for.

WHAT YOU SAID

"Scholarships for international students because the tuition fees are too high. It would be perfect if there were some benefits for us like EU or citizen students."

"More scholarship for international students."

"It would be awesome if EU students could be part of a program to ask for help with finance and to receive the same money as British students."

"Scholarships for international students, better support for international students and social events."

"If possible, to be part of a program to help EU/International students deal with finance."

HOW IT WORKS

1. Students submit ideas during Change Week.

2. Teams of students gather to hack solutions to the biggest problems.

3. Teams pitch their ideas to a panel of University big wigs.

4. SU Officers and teams work with staff to make the ideas a reality.
