ACCESS TO CHILDCARE

THE IDEA

Students wanted access to childcare on campus for students with childcare.

ACTION

  • The Education Officer will look into what is currently available to students.

UPDATE

SEPTEMBER 6TH

  • A Student Voice Representative (Rhys Pewtner, SVR for Computing and Maths 16/17), wrote their SVR research project on Student Parents which helped the SU Full-Time Officers 17/18 fight for childcare to continue being provided for Pontypridd students. Childcare provision for Treforest and Glyntaff campuses is from Acorn Nurseries.
  • A Student Voice Representative (Rebecca-Jane Parkinson, SVR for Education 17/18), wrote their SVR research project on Childcare for Newport Campus, however, there is no current provision at this campus, nor at Cardiff campus. For more information, the University directs students to this Unilife page on Childcare.

NOVEMBER 5TH

  • The Education Officer will look into the policy surrounding student parents bringing in their children into lectures, seminars, etc.

"More access to childcare on campus for students with children."

HOW IT WORKS

1. Students submit ideas during Change Week.

2. Teams of students gather to hack solutions to the biggest problems.

3. Teams pitch their ideas to a panel of University big wigs.

4. SU Officers and teams work with staff to make the ideas a reality.
